Sell Halifax and YOU
As a native Haligonian, my experience of building and growing businesses globally has led me to deeply appreciate the opportunity I have to promote one of the finest products in the world: Halifax.
Halifax’s ocean advantage, our proximity to the US and Europe for trade and business, the Halifax Gateway, our educated and innovative community and our rural-urban lifestyle are examples of how the city easily holds its own on the international level. Where else can you go from a boardroom to a beach in just 30 minutes?
Yet I can also tell you from experience that the world, frankly, does not know we exist.
That’s where you come in.
We have a great story to tell about our city and what it has to offer. And no one is better qualified to sell Halifax to the world than we are – the people of Halifax who live, work, and do business here every day.
Like most great opportunities, a single person can’t do it alone. It takes a team – a diverse team of businesses and organizations working together – to attract, welcome and keep new business and talent in Halifax.
It takes people like you being part of the team that is sharing Halifax’s story with the world.
The recently launched Sell Halifax Toolkit (www.InvestinHalifax.com) is designed specifically for your use. You will see the core foundation to all our sales efforts are Halifax’s TLC strengths and business advantages – Talent. Location. Cost. Starring our Ocean advantage.
The Toolkit’s intent is two-fold. First, to make it easy for you to access Halifax information and marketing collateral when you are preparing to talk about why Halifax is, for example, the place to set up a new business or branch office, get an innovation moving, immigrate to, or study.
Spoiler alert: You may have more than a few pride-full moments of “Wow! I didn’t know that!”
Second, the Toolkit helps us all have access to the same accurate, up-to-date information about Halifax’s competitive advantages – numbers, facts, figures and proof points on growth sectors, quality of life features, economic stats, and our strategic location for business – so our efforts are aligned.
The Toolkit is one element of the larger Sell Halifax Program being led by the Partnership and Mayor Savage. It includes Sell Halifax business events and meetings in key markets (we held a very successful event in Toronto in June. Boston and Vancouver visits are being developed) and targeted promotion of Halifax nationally and internationally. Halifax businesses are invited to participate in the Sell Halifax in-market events where there will be opportunities to network and make business connections. Halifax needs more people and more investment from outside our shores if we are to thrive and achieve our long-term economic vision to grow our population to 550,000 people and GDP to $30 billion by 2031.
We have taken the time to identify what makes our city a great place to do business, and a part of that story is the strength of our communities. We have a unique combination of people and place, and we need to work together to share these strengths in global markets.
