2016 Scholarship Update & Awards
This year we were overwhelmed by the response to the Scholarship Program. We had made some enhancements to the program, the most notable being that we increased the amount of each scholarship from $1,500 to $2,500.
Norman Nahas and Joe Metlege had recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Saint Mary’s University President Dr. Summerby-Murray to solidify our relationship together, which sees scholarship winners attending SMU receiving an additional $2,500 given by the university.
We also made the scholarship process more user friendly, by allowing for applications to be done entirely on line and we also promoted the program on line through social media promotion and sharing.
We received a total of 25 applications for scholarships this year, which topped our previous best of 16 in 2015.
Members of the committee truly enjoy evaluating scholarship applications, as it highlights the talent and diversity of our upcoming generation of Lebanese students. Our youth show great promise, as so many of them excel academically, but also give back to the community and volunteer with many great organizations.
This year’s successful applicants were
- Milad Saikali (SMU)
- Madeleine Anjoul (SMU)
- Celine Jabbour (MSVU second year)
- Elsy Makhlouf (MSVU)
- Jessica Ramia (Dalhousie)
We hope that all students have a great year in school and continue to make us proud.
